I think you might have better luck with the GoPro showing depth/scale if you use the highest setting of resolution (1080p resolution. 1920×1080 pixels (16:9), 30 fps, 15 Mbit/s data rate). It appears that I did not post any good examples in this review. Here’s one from New Zealand that might give you an idea of how well it would do with depth/scale: http://vimeo.com/18334886

Great review. I’m considering this for a couple of sequences within a documentary but I’m worried about the lacking perception of depth and scale. Your opinions?

Hi Stephen,

Yes, I’ve had your product for a few months now. It does do a good job of removing the fish-eye effect, but I wish the seal around the glass was of better quality. The rubber cement seal started coming off just weeks after I purchased it.

You can take out the fish eye effect by utilizing the underwater focus fix housing made by eye of mine. http://www.eyeofmine.com/gopro/underwater/index.html

Great review. Very helpful. I've been using an Xtreme Recall Helmet Cam System, but am seriously thinking about selling it and getting a self-contained unit, like the one you reviewed.

That's a really thorough review. I saw your stream crossing video on Modern Hiker and was curious what you used to film it. A little pricey, but very cool. I'll add it to my wish list.

Oh, and the surfing video on the GoPro website is amazing.

I agree with Seth – awesome review! I would love to get one of these cameras too, but it definitely seems like a specialty camera for unique situations, rather than my “everyday” hikes and backpacking trips.

I've got the Wide GoPro and it's awesome. Have you used the HD in cold weather yet? I can't really use mine in the winter to take video because the batteries get cold and stop working.
